I don't think that's the case, but it wouldn't surprise me if the oil companies were doing it to try and sway the election (not that I think they are doing it either).
If either of these is true, it apparently isn't going to make much difference. A recent poll said over 30% of Americans believed that the President was responsible for political reasons and another 30+% believed the oil companies were doing it for the reason I mentioned above. That makes a total of 60% of the people that believe it's going on. If it is, it's only hurting them.
To the answer above:
I would like to know who's economy is so great, I used to be doing fairly well, now I barely make ends meet.

Nope don't buy it because with all the problems the republicans have at the moment I doubt gas prices will be that much of a savior.

I dont like George Bush but no President has that kind of power. Its all the laws of supply and demand. Prices went up, producers produced more and consumers consumed less. No hurricanes, no wars with Iran, no interuptions of supply the markets were worried about. More hybrids, more telecommuting. Lower gasoline prices. Take Econ 1

I don't care WHY they are low, I'm loving it!!!
In fact, when I saw gas prices drop to $1.99 I suddenly felt the urge to buy as much gasoline as I possibly could and hoard it up for the future.... but where to store it??? I considered my apartment complex's swimming pool.....
but then everybody would be dipping into my stash!

No. Our economy is better than it has been in 40 years. I think that alone speaks for itself. As much as we can't stand what is happening in Iraq, our economy is booming.
