Art supply stores used to have a product called Friendly Plastic. It came in colored strips and you dropped the strip into boiling water for just a few seconds. When it comes out, you can mold it into whatever shape you want.

Polymer clay is a form of plastic. It is a clay you bake in your home oven at 265 degrees and it hardens like plastic or ceramic. This is one of the most versatile mediums in the craft world. Visit the local craft store and look at the books devoted to the subject to get an idea of all the things that can be done with it.
