My doctor allows the following:
-Claritin or the equivalent
-Sudafed after the first trimester
-steam to relieve congestion (boil water and put it in a bowl, then put your face over the bowl with at towel over your head to contain the steam and breathe as deeply as possible, this can loosen your congestion making it easier to blow it all out or cough it up)
-Saline nasal spray
-Afrin nasal spray is okay for short durations, but it is easy to become dependent on and then you will be constantly stuffy
-warm or cold compresses to the forhead and/or back of neck for headaches

I hope some of these work for you!

most pregnant women come down with a cold at least once during their nine months. Fortunately, even a bad cold wont hurt your baby, though you may feel miserable....unfortunately the medications that you are probably accustomed to reaching for in order to find relief (or to prevent a cold) including aspirin and ibuprofen, megadoses of vitamin c and zinc, and most herbs, are NOT recommended so do not take any of these without your practitioner's approval. He/she should be able to steer you toward cold treatments that are considered safe in pregnancy as well as those that will work best in your case. None will cure a cold, but some may help relieve its symtoms and make you feel more comfortable.

The best thing to do IS call your doctor because every person has a different reaction to things when they're pregnant!!! I didn't think Tylenol could be used at ALL when pregnant, but maybe it's okay for you. I know Aspirin cannot either OR anything that is an 'Elixir' (it's on the bottle). I'm sorry to not be much help. I still vote you ask your doctor. Congrats on your soon-to-be new arrival! May God Bless you and yours!

I hate to be the one to tell you this, nothing works!!! I would just rest. As hard as it may be to do this is, it is the best thing for you to do. I am pregnant with my second child (20 weeks), and already had a cold last week. I was not allowed to take anything at all. I feel your pain and misery. I hope you feel better. Oh one thing you should try is a natural nasal spary I think it is called Ocean-Spray, to clear up your nose. That was the only helpful thing!

Call your OB doctor. If you have a headache , it may be due to a fever which can indicate you have something more than a cold, like a sinus infection or the flu. Usually the nurse can tell you what to do and ask questions to rule out something more serious than a cold.

You should rest and drink fluids and pamper your self. AND do what the MD office tells you.

Okay, I was just in the same situation and my cold was bad as well. I was so worried that I wouldn't be able to take any sort of medication for it. it was sunday night and I needed something. So, I called Nurse Direct, not sure if you have that service where you are or not. but, i talked to a nurse who said I can take Sudafed, benadril, and robatussin. I would suggest calling your doctor's office since its a week day. He/she may suggest taking one of those medication. They will also tell you to get rest and all of that other stuff they tell you when you normally have a cold.

In a large pot put the following:

2 qts water
2 onions peeled and quartered
1 clove garlic
2 grapefruits sliced and squeezed (rinds, too)
2 lemons, same as above
1 cup very strong black tea (orange pekoe is fine)

Bring to slow boil for 45 min. Strain through sieve or colander and drink with orange juice every 30 minutes until its all gone.

Yes, it's vile but it works. Use lots of OJ to make it easier.

You can take Benadryl and regular strength tylenol when you are pregnant. Also put some vicks vapor rub on your chest - that really helps. Boil a pot of water and once it's steaming, put a towel over head and inhale as much steam as you can stand. Good luck!

you are able to take Sudafed. It must be the Sudafed that you purchase on the prescription counter. You dont want a prescription. I had terrible hypersensitive reactions and an extremely undesirable chilly throughout my being pregnant and the Sudafed worked truly solid and didnt make me drowsy in any respect. solid success!

I know that you aren't supposed to take hardly anything when you are pregnant, but when I was pregnant my dr said that I could take Comtrex. It's just a regular cold medicine, it apparently isn't bad for you.
