I have been attending several AA meetings for three months now and have been going to the counseling center on a regular basis to sober up. I've always been volunteering at Salvation Army to keep myself busy. Would reference letters from the AA, the counseling center, and the Salvation Army be sufficient enough to get my job back at Home Depot?
An Associate found using, selling or possessing illegal drugs or alcoholic beverages is subject to immediate termination, but with my reference letters will they hire me back?

I don't think so, you should never go to work drunk anywhere

A lot of companies will give a 2nd chance. I dont know about Home Depot. Working around both the public and tools, lumber, etc, you were a danger both to yourself and others. I would suggest that if you have been sober for a couple of months and you were a good employee before you were terminated, you go talk to your x-boss. Realize that even if you get a 2nd chance, you are going to have to prove yourself. I am sure that you will be ask to take alcohol and drug test regularly. I wish you good luck and I hope that you will continue to attend AA meetings.

RE: How to get a job at home depot? I went to the home depot web site and applied a month ago for another job no response. And 2 weeks ago I applied for the Merchandising Execution Associate, I have more than 3 years of Merchandising experience. My question is for anyone who works for home depot or use to, how can I get this job?

I'd be disappointed if they did hire you back, but doubt they will anyway. Take it as a lesson, it's better to call in sick than to go to work smelling of alcohol.

What you do have going for you is you've started back on the right path. You've admitted your problem and have gotten help. Skip the Home Depot application and start fresh at a different job, just as you have done with your personal life.

Good luck!

Uhmmm...let me just say, that if I was Home Depo, I wouldn't let you back. You should not have been drinking on the job or before the job. They had every right to let you go and if I were you, I would find another job that wouldn't be jeapordizing the saftey of others.

It's really up to Home Depot.

Your best bet might be to talk with your former supervisor or someone from Human Resources with the company.

I don't think it's likely they will...if they caught you drinking or smelled alcohol on you, then the reserve the right to terminate employment.

Good luck on the next job and remember to drink AFTER work!

You'll need to ask Home Depot that question. Every company has different policies.
