Yes you can but it is not a 1:1 result. By that I mean if you mix 1 cup of rainwater with 1 cup of your hard water the resulting 2 cups won't be halfway inbetween. It will still be toward the hard side. Beside, rainwater isn't all that pure anyway (at least for drinking). Rain clears the air of lots of particulates which end up in the rainwater. If you're using it on plants or to wash your hair it's great--but not so great to drink (it might not make you sick if the air is fairly clean or it might, you don't know).

It would be healthier to use a in line water softener, capsule that adds to the water coming to the house, i have one on my beach house. good luck
