How do you frame a photograph?

Should the mat be cut with a wider border on the top or bottom, or should they be equal?

I work in a frame shop at a craft store. They can be equal on all four sides, but if two sides are going to be narrower it should be the left and right and not the top or bottom. Although, that is okay too, as long as the difference is not too noticeable.

usually they're equal but it depends .... it's personal preference...
