My marriage is over. After years of trying to hold on, I'm now letting go. He said this morning that he wants a divorce. I want to give him one. The only problem is the cost.

He hasn't worked steady since July, and has shown no interest in changing that situation.

He's cost me so much already. Any advise on how to do this without paying out the big bucks?

There's a Web site that will allow you to fill out your paperwork completely so all you have to do is file it in the county courthouse. It's called Completecase.com. I've researched it -- the site seems legit and has even been profiled on Good Morning America and in quite a few magazines and major papers. It was started and designed by a divorce lawyer who wanted to help financially challenged people afford a divorce. Best part is, it costs only $249 (plus whatever county filing fees), way less than the thousands you'd spend with a lawyer.

Now, if there are kids involved or complex financial/ownership issues, I'd still strongly suggest having a lawyer to look over the divorce agreement, but the Website might be a good place to start the paperwork. All the best ...

I went thru mine here in FL. There is no such thing as contested or uncontested here..divorce is divorce. I had initially wanted to do it ourselves, and found all of the paperwork I needed on line. Search for whatever state you are in as "(yoursate)courts". Mine was flcourts.gov.
Within that site, you may find a self help center. Sometimes, you can even go right on down to the courthouse, and the clerk can give you the self help packet.
I ended up hiring an attorney because of children and support and stuff, but a friend of mine did his own with no problems.
Good luck!

Hi Doll,
I am sorry to hear your marriage is coming to an end... sounds like the hubby has depression issues. I would suggest that you call around to see who is the most affordable attorney in your area... I also would suggest contacting the court house and asking them if they have any doccuments for a prose divorce.

GO TO CITY HALL AND GO TO THE LAW LIBRARY.THEY WILL GIVE YOU AN EXAMPLE ON HOW TO FILE DIVORCE YOURSELF. BUT BEFORE YOU DO THAT THEY WILL HAVE YOU FILL OUT SOME FORMS ASKING YOU ABOUT YOU.LIKE WHERE DO YOU LIVE AND WITH WHO HOW MUCH DO YOU MAKE ETC. ALL OF THIS INFORMATION THAT THEY ASK YOU IS DESIGNED TO SEE IF YOU CAN AFFORD TO PAY FOR ALL THE FEE'S ETC. ONCE YOU DO ALL OF THE PAPER WORK YOU WILL BE SENT TO THE JUDGE SO THE JUDGE CAN GRANT YOU THE WAIVER TO WAIVE ALL FEE'S. THEN, YOU WILL GET YOUR PAPERWORK EXAMPLES ON HOW TO TYPE UP YOUR OWN DIVORCE PAPERS. I KNOW THIS IS TRUE BECASUE MY BOYFRIEND HAD TO DO THIS A MONTH AGO AND OF COURSE I WAS BY HIS SIDE. I ACTUALLY TYPED UP HIS PAPER WORK FOR HIM.
