I think 9pm is plenty late. You'll see the number you get after 8pm taper off pretty drastically anyhow.

#1 Rule is to shut off the lights when you run out of treats.

After that I would say it depends if Halloween falls on a school night (like this year) or not. Since the art of Trick or Treating is for kids, including those in high school (rather have them trick or treating than out vandalizing or worse). Give it till 9 or possibly 10pm at the latest, just don't go past curfew.

The only other thing to consider is if you yourself have small children that will be in bed and at what time. You don't want constant banging or door bell ringing if your own children are asleep.

If you're in a slow neighborhood without a lot of trick or treater traffic you probably can get away with 8:00. Otherwise I would say 9:00 - after all, it's a school night!!! lol ( I think they should get the next day off )

8:30 to 9 depending on the flow of trick-or-treaters

Most communities now have set hours for trick-or-treating. So I figure about a half and hour after the end of the set time is when my lights go out and the left over candy becomes all mine. :)

I usually turn my light off by 8:30, once I see the teenagers heading around in their regular clothes I assume all the little ones are at home. I don't mind the teens but shouldn't they try to dress up in some sort of costume to at least get their treat???

It depends on where you live. Most communities impose a curfew for those under 18 on Halloweeen Night. Find out when the curfew is and turn off the lights then.

I'd say about 9 p.m., 9:30 if more kids keep coming to the door. Once you hit the lull, just shut the light off and relax.
