I have a desktop PC running Windows XP. I have a firewall, virus protection and Spyware cleaner. Until recently the computer was working fine. For several weeks now it seems to run out of memory soon after I start using it. I am speaking here of RAM (I think that's the correct term) - - - - what the computer uses to function, not hard disc space which is fine. In order to continue using the computer I must turn it off and reboot. Then the same thing happens again after about 30 minutes or so. I empty the temporary Internet files at least once a day so that's not the problem. Any Ideas?

How much RAM do you have in the computer? Run AVG Antivirus, Spy-bot S&D, Windows Defender, Ad-Aware. Dump your temporary internet files, cookies and history. Do some housekeeping, get rid of any programs that you don't use at all or use very little. Do a defrag.

This maybe one of those true "bonfire moments", as I had been experiencing almost the same problem with my PC, as well! ... lol
In any event, I do agree with the above observations by our friends' regarding possible software-related problems. But I have a suspicion that you can NOT rule out hardware problems in this case either (like mine was a bad RAM card, for instance). So, it's probably a good idea to have it checked out by a competent technician, especially if the problem continued after the attempted software remedies.

check your start up files and see what starts up every time u switch on,
check the start up program in your menu.
then run msconfig in the run command, click on start up tab and check all programs that start up when you fire up, be careful here, if you deslect certain programs some functions maynot work correctly. if there is a program the definately should not be there, then untick it.
again caution is to be used here, best to get someone who knows what they are doing

hit cntrol alt delete, click processes, if there is more than probably 36 processes running, you have hidden background programs running, usually spyware, down load adaware or spybot search & destroy to remove them.
