"desktop support" is the generic term for someone who helps users with their problems. It would be classified as tier 1. Tier 2 would be simple networking/e-mail resolution. Tier 3 would be systems/network engineering and server maintenance.

Most desktop support issues are PEBKAC errors (problem exists between keyboard and chair). :)
