There is an appliance called a hot dog cooker. It has a lid and inside are spikes connected to the electric wires. You position a hot dog so that each end is stuck on a spike. Then close the cover. Then plug it in. In a couple of minutes the current passing through the hot dog will cook it completely. It does two at a time if both sets of spikes are loaded.

That is as alternative as you can get.

I don't think your description eliminates the use of a microwave oven. For a cheaper way, go down to the local cafeteria and order a large cup of hot water (like for tea). When it arrives, drop your hot dog in the water for 5 minutes or so.

My favorite not traditional way to cook a hotdog is to carefully wrap the hotdog in multiple layers of aluminum foil, close tightly, very tightly and place in the top rack of your dishwasher. Let run.
You may need to rise off the dog before you eat it …
If you want your bun warmed you can open the dishwasher before the drying cycle and add the bun also very, very well wrapped in aluminum foil.

Enjoy

Wrap it in foil and stick it on your engine block away from any moving parts, I've cooked all kinds of things that way. From soups to breakfast.

Break the glass from an electric light buld, remove the filament, and place hotdog on the Y shaped wires that the filament connected to. Turn on light switch and watch it sizzle.
