It depends almost completely on the driver. My uncle drove a honda with over 100k miles and the ORIGINAL tires. He doesn't drive aggressively at all.
My sisters wore out the tires on our minivan in under 5000 miles...she drove very aggressively.
Hard acceleration, breaking and cornering will reduce tire life. So will driving with them underinflated or overinflated. Rotate the tires regularly (ususally every 3000-5000 miles) to extend their life and make sure they are balanced properly and aligned accurately.

Some cars will always eat tires. The Acura NSX has the camber set so aggressively that after 5000 miles the tires are practically bald.
