Their brains are growing and developing very rapidly in those really early years! They are brand new to everything in this world, and the only way they interact with the material world is through the 5 senses. Thus, all information gathered through those five senses is what is sent to the brain and forms more developed and complicated "wiring" of the brain, if you will...which is very important for them to learn to interact with the world. This by talking, walking, etc.

For example, if you were to patch one eye of a newborn, so that they could see nothing...then the back part of the brain, which translates signals from the eye to an image that is understood by the brain would not develop. Patch this eye for long enough, and the child would completely blind in that eye as an adult!

Also psychosocially, interactions with people who love them is crucial to normal and healthy emotional development. Emotion and healthy behavioral responses to the world is learned (by a very large degree) by those who love and care for them.

Did that all make sense?

I hope so...and hope it helped!
