That is what I put it down to most of the time. I identify homophobes in two groups. People who are afraid of something different and don't like change or people who are questioning themselves and are so afraid of what could happen.
I think that it would be more productive if they could turn their homophobe anger etc into more constructive energy and find out about things that may aide them in their 'questioning'.

Some definately are, but I wouldn't say all.
I knew one who hated gays because when he was in college some guy got him drunk and molested him and now he thinks all gays are like that. I tried to tell him that's like saying all priests are child molesters just because a few got caught, but he didn't want to actually think about it... and I didn't really want to push that one cause of the painful memories involved and him being an otherwise decent guy.
So yeah, there are other reasons... most of them are pretty lame tho. (Actually, IMO self-repression is probably one of the least-lame reasons to bash. Still lame tho.)

That's what I've been saying for years. Truly straight people who are secure in their sexually don't make a big deal about gay people. When I hear someone constantly making derogatory remarks about homosexuals my "self-loathing, paranoid, closet queen" alarm goes off.

i've got not got a concern with gays, i don't think of they are hypocrites, a threat to society or bigots and stupid. besides, being gay isn't a call. All too many "reasonable" religious human beings on the different hand grant camouflage and ethical help to the so-referred to as "extremists". in spite of each little thing, they the two believe "faith" is a physically powerful ingredient, so why be taken aback whilst some carry this faith too some distance? "Extremists" do not inevitably could desire to have "extremist" instructors; the emphasis on "faith" even by utilising moderates is in lots of cases adequate. Atheists in basic terms ingredient out that the "extremists" are the accountability of the religions they arrive from. Atheists opt for to be left on my own by utilising the two "moderates" and "extremists", and don't opt for the two of them having a exceptional form of effect on coverage in a mundane, present day society. it quite is genuine that some atheists in my opinion do bypass too some distance, and can be too insulting, yet that's their top as long as they don't bodily attack absolutely everyone. yet too many religious anybody is offended by utilising getting their ideals criticized in any respect, no count how well mannered and lifelike the critic is. Your question seems to intend what I see in simple terms approximately on a daily basis. religious human beings look to believe that their ideals not in basic terms deserve admire yet deserve an extremely particular form of admire, as though they are asking(or quite, stressful) non-believers to easily approximately settle for their creeds or have an extremely deep "admire" for them even if in the event that they don't believe in them. that's nonsense. No faith could desire to call for the style of admire on the instant. not something could desire to be above grievance, not in a unfastened society, not the place there quite is unfastened speech, and this includes faith. i'm going to shield a guy or woman's top to believe even in the event that they opt for, and shield their top to coach their faith, yet i'm going to additionally shield a guy or woman's top to criticize even in the event that they opt for, mutually with their top to criticize and insult religious ideals. no person has the final to not be offended, and this is going for the religious besides as atheists and non-believers.

It sure does make you wonder. If they were truely straight and truely happy and secure with themselves then why would they focus so much of their energy on something that has nothing to do with them.
