i want to have a more reliable way to find out when the northern lights are going to be there.... there should be a way to predict it when the sun gives bursts of energy. please be serious and help me.

find out where we are in nthe solar flare cycle (i think we are at minimum) in 5 years it will be maximum and northern lights will be greater.

Unfortunately we're not that good at predicting exactly when the Sun is going to give off a powerful solar flare or coronal mass ejection towards Earth. The website nick s gave you is a great one, though.

It shows a Coronal hole happening on the sun, and there may be an auroral display around the 20th.

Also, any other time, scroll down the left side of the page and look for geomagnetic storms. When the % forecast for "severe" is high, the aurora could happen.

Look at this. They have a 28 day forcast. Anything longer is very uncertain. Very much like predicting if it will rain at your house in a month,
