Please tell me how to make it, and does it really help a cold/soar throat or is that just a myth?

Hot Toddy

1 oz. Brandy
1 Tablespoon Honey
1/4 Lemon
1 cup Boiling Water
1 Tea Bag

Coat the bottom of a mug with the honey.
Add brandy and juice of lemon quarter.
On the side, boil water and add tea bag to make hot tea. Pour steaming tea into honey/brandy/lemon combination

My Grandad used to swear by this when we were little. I think it worked for him because it made him sleep, and it was possibly the sleep that helped shake off the cold symptoms.

They're called "hot toddy" or, if plural, "hot toddies," not "hottie toddy." And basically they're meant to soothe oru throat and help you get your rest. Supposedly, a "true" toddy will make you break into a sweat and sweat out the illness.

Here's some suggestions:

One shot of jack daniels. one shot of lemon juice and one shot of honey, warmed together, then taken with two real aspirins (not Tylenol)

A shot (or two) of heated rum, 1/4 cup of water, some sugar, and a pat of butter on the top.

The one that I'd heard of was Southern Comfort, lemon, honey, and hot tea. Make it as strong as you can stand it. Drink it all down and get in bed. Stay under the covers and you are gonna sweat like crazy. Supposedly you'll fall asleep soon and you'll wake up feeling like a new person.

Better for your sore throat is fresh lemon juice, ground ginger, honey, add hot water to that to make tea. Of course, if you're old enough for a little booze, you could add a little brandy, it probably won't hurt if you don't drink too much.

My ex-BF is a chef and used to make a nice hot-buttered rum, which was basically butter and rum with hot water, cinnamon and nutmeg. Okay for a cold, but the other is better for sore throat.

And I think it's called a "hot toddy," unless I'm hopelessly behind the times (possible). :-)

Booze - hot water - honey.
Sweet high alcohol liquors - hot water.
Rum - hot water - butter and nutmeg.

The booze sedates and helps you sleep, the hot water helps clear your head and it is just a comfy thing - like hot chocolate but doesn't form more mucus.
