Yes,especially in a doctor's waiting room. Your name finally gets called and all of a sudden, 30 pairs of eyes are boring into you as you walk those few yards,but it feels like a mile. They look at you like you're not coming back !

many times as I supply direction programmes! each and each direction lasts 2 weeks so I meet an entire new bunch of 'strangers' each and every 2 weeks. I additionally attend open days and supply shows and talks to various 'strangers' xxx

No...the sounds of tolling bells indicating the hour is probably proving that the party is over....they are probably tired.
BTW I am a writer, the point being that many years ago i came up with the phrase..."The Listening Roar..."...much about the same thing. it can drive some people nits i suppose, but there is nothing wrong with silence.....even silence can be symphonic......
Listen..with your life.....you will hear things that could never have been noticed otherwise.....signs of a heartbeating ....many things..innumerable.

Sometimes, but most often I think of that silence as an expectant pause before the chatter begins when someone gains the courage to speak which will get others talking too.
