Buy a return ticket to the cheapest airfare to any central Asian destination (presumably HK or Bangkok), get the Lonely Planet guide to Sout-East Asia, then from wherever you are just go wherever you feel, the cheapest way possible, by train in hard sleepers, stay in hostels and guesthouses, and eat like the locals. You can stay with locals for free if you register at www.globalfreeloaders.com I do that all the time when I travel on a shoe-string. Great way to see a country and meet people. Better than any 5-star resort, I guarantee you...

I have been looking around for ages and just booked my hol to egypt with Thomson - saved loads. Depends what you are looking for though really.
