I noticed slot machines as being controlled by time and not the actual momentum it is rolling. Can anyone in business gives some ideas?

The spinning wheels or displays on a slot machine no longer have any affect on whether you win or not. In the old days they did.

A computer inside the slot machine will choose a random number when you pull the slot machine arm. If that number is a winner, then the display will stop in the proper place reflecting your win, and you will be paid.

When you do not win, the slot machine will stop the wheels anywhere it likes except for a winning combination. In fact, many slot machines are programed to show you a 'close call' to keep you interested in gambling. Like showing you 2 cherries and a cherry in the 3 wheel just above the pay line. Still not a win, but it looks close, and you might keep playing.

The percentage chance of winning is usualy enforced and controlled by a gaming commision. They will check the chips inside the slot machine to make sure that they pay out the minimum guaranteed by state law, or more.

A random number generator constantly pumps out new numbers. When you hit the button, it tells the machine to take the next random number that is generated and use it to determine how long the wheels will spin.
