yes. That is what it was put in place for. That is its purpose. The reason our government is structured the way it is, is so that no one arm of the government can have more power over the other.

That's why there are a series of checks and balances. These checks and balances make sure that no branch has more power than the other. Now if the supreme court did something that was unconstitutional then the congress and president would catch it real quick. It is the Supreme Court's job to interpret the constitution and keep people from passing any bills against it or that might mess it up. This is what makes our government so strong is Checks and Balances.

Yes.
There have to be checks and balances.
Without checks and balances, you will have someone or something with too much power.
Power breeds corruption. That is never going to change.
The absolute Majesty of our constitution is the incredible understanding by our forefathers that power had to be checked for everyone.
Examples:
When the majority of the people want something, they can go to the Congress to get it. The legislators are elected by the people and will do the majority of the people's work.
When the minority of the people are unfairly suppressed, they can not go to Congress, the Congress are elected by the majority, and they will only ever support the majority because they want to be re-elected. The minority of the people need someplace to turn within our government.
The minority can only turn to the courts. The supreme court must have the power to protect the rights of the minorities from the whims of the majority.
Study the landmark case of Brown vs The Board of Education for the necessity of the Supreme Courts decision.
This one court case explains everything you ever need to know about why we must always have a well-educated and thoughtful Supreme Court to protect all of us.

I think that the US Supreme Court should be able to declare actions of the Congress and the President unconstitutional. In fact, I am not sure if they already are able to do so. If not, than the people who make the laws would have absolute power to change the style of government from democracy to a dictatorship or communism, for example. No one would be able to stop them.
By the way, please put your question in the question spot and sentences like "What do you guys think?" in the 'subtitle' spot. You will get more answers from people knowledgeable in your subject area that way, because they'll know what your question is about.

No because the the Supreme Court Justices are appointed to their posts by peers and therefore corruption can occur.
The president is voted into office by the people, therefore it is up to the members of congress and the public to find him unconstitutional and showing it by not voting for his party in future election.
Allowing this power to the Supreme courts would be a step backward in democracy.

Absolutely. That's the way the system was designed; the congress makes the laws, the administration enforces the laws and the judiciary decides whether the laws are constitutional. In other words a properly functioning court would protect your rights as guaranteed under the constitution and protect the rights of the minority from infringements by the majority. It's a must have branch in a democratic form of government.

Sure. Supreme court justices are sworn in for life, so they're not worried about getting reelected next year, so their only motive to vote the way they do is their own sense of morality. Congress and the president, however, are motivated to make the decisions that will get them reelected, not necessarily what they think will be best for the country, so it's good to have the supreme court there to keep them from doing anything really bad.

the constitution must be protected. the judges for the supreme court know and understand the laws of the land better than the electorate. if congress and the president are engaged in illegal activities they should still be subject to the same legal investigation and potential penalty as anyone else. no-one should be aloowed to live above the law.

The supreme court is a branch of government that doesn't allow the white house to get out of hand. Our founders were really smart! Bush has violated the law, and should be held accountable
