they feel full like they're filled with water. I have some expectorant (Guaifenesin) syrup, it's supposed to help loosen congestion, do you think it will help my ears also? I feel awful!

What you describe seems to be two separate conditions. Tinnitus (ringing in ears) has yet to be determined in cause. Many practitioners believe it is caused by ototoxic drugs (ie aspirin, diuretics, b/p meds, etc) others by sound trauma. There are new medications both herbal and prescribed, but none fully effective. The stuffiness, congestion, etc typically results from a restriction in the eustachian tubes which drain the ears and equalize pressure. When inflamed and swollen by infection, pressure builds and restricts the flow of infectious fluids from ear.

You do get a fluid buildup behind you eardrum sometimes when you are sick which causes the full feeling in the ears. If the ears don't clear up with your cold you need to see your doctor who may need to prescribe stronger medication or refer to an ear nose throat specialist. I don't know if the ringing is common with being sick...

Your symptoms also sound like what people experience after having had some noise exposure from a concert or something loud like that. If that is the case it should get better on its own in a few days.

hope this helps

sounds like your inner ear is filling w/ fluid( sounds like your hands are over your ears) try drixoral or other heavy dose of sudafed ( go to doctor now )to open inner ear canal, if not, and it continues to fill, it will start to hurt & you'll need your eardrum drum lanced & tubes put in! go now!
