Go for it! My girl has been having cheerios since she was 4 months old (she was sitting up unassisted and picking them up herself!).
Go for it. Its almost time to start table foods anyway. You can test the cheerios in your mouth. Put a dry cheerio on your tongue and close your mouth. Push the cheerio around as your child would with their tongue. It will disolve in about 10 seconds. Not long at all.
Good Luck!

Well no time is a good time because cheerios contain sugar.
Sugar is not fine. 25% percent of children in america and uk are fat, and that is because most people don't even care what goes in their kids mouths. If you start feeding them sugar and junk now they will develop a taste for it and then you will be either giving them junk food when theyre older and facing the risk that they may get fat and will certainly be unhealthy, or you withold the junk and face tantrums. Isn't it better just to not introduce it in the first place?
There are loads of alternatives to cheerios for finger foods, breadsticks, any fruit, bread, raisins, rice cakes, cheese, etc

this is regarding your other questions...back pain with a rash..I know 2 people who had exactly that..and it was shingles. Often Comes from stress, and it's a dormant chicken pox virus .. see a doctor! and ask about shingles. My father had exactly what you are describing...it gets worse before it gets better, but antibiotics can help. Hope it's not it...google "shingles" and you'll find out more. It is very painful, unfortunately.

As long as he can naw on them go for it! Other good things are bagels, bananas, and pizza crust!
The best thing though is the gerber mini fruits and veggie puff... They taste great and they dissolve really easily incase your baby can't naw it enough!
