LOL, Edgar married his 1st cousin Elizibeth. And it was a good marriage for 3years. But nothing last forever she was dieing and so edgar described his emotions in The Raven. Keep in ming Elizibeth was only 13 at the time.

I believe it was the death of Lenore. The Raven represents a descent into madness.

His own feelings of depression. He was a very depressed man and he felt very much alone. They didn't have medications to treat these things in those days. It was a very sad situation.

he buried his wife while she was still alive(comatose) and found out about it later--it haunted him for the rest of his life and influenced most of his writings
