In Srimad Bhagavatam 3.28.13, the color of the Personality of Godhead, Krishna, is described here as “nilotpala-dala”, meaning that it is like that of a lotus flower with petals tinted blue and white. This blue color of the Lord has not been imagined by an artist. The color of the Lord is not poetical imagination. It is actually the color of the Lord.
This is described in many authoritative scripture. In the Brahma-Samhita, the color of Krishna’s body is compared to that of a bluish cloud. There are authoritative descriptions in the Brahma-samhita, Srimad-Bhagavatam, Bhagavad-gita and many of the puranas of the Lord’s body, His weapons and all other paraphernalia. There his form and color is also mentioned . This is the nature of God.
One of the answers given by one of the gentle man from Bhagavad Gita, is that God’s main for is the Universal form and this form Decides the Color. But this is not accepted in Bhagavad Gita Itself.
After seeing the Universal Form Arjuna prays to Krishna, “O universal form, O thousand-armed Lord, I wish to see You in Your four-armed form, with helmeted head and with club, wheel, conch and lotus flower in Your hands. I long to see You in that form.” (11.46). “Sanjaya said to Dhritarastra: The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krishna, having spoken thus to Arjuna, displayed His real four-armed form and at last showed His two-armed form, thus encouraging the fearful Arjuna.”(11.50).
Hence apart from Universal Form, Krishna also possesses also the 4 handed Form and the 2 handed form which are his integral part. According to Srimad Bhagavatam, the 2 handed form is the original form of the Lord.

Please read Bhgavad gita . Lord krishna reveals the totality of the form of God to Arjuna at his request in the battle field . In response to his request he tell shim that it is not possible for any one to see his form in its entireity with the human eye and that he therefore gave a special eye to see his true for,. the special eye referred t o here was the eye of eye of knowledge , the divine Gnana.
so saying he reveaqls his totality to arjuna . the totality is nothing but the UNIVERSE - the form of god is "VISHVAROOPA" the form ot the universe. Visvam is the Universe . Roopam is the form. When Arjuna sees it through his eye of knowledge , he found that he could not see the beginning or end of his form , no middle , no height or depth. He was space pervading all the galactic matter in the universe. He saw all the galaxies and stars and planets in his form and the stars . planets and Galaxies and all lives , mountains, oceans etc were falling into his fiery flaming mouth like the roiling waters of the rivers and like the flies falling ointo the flames.this is was the act .of annihilation of the universe - the formation of the red giant engulfing all th eplanets and all glactic matter around it and awalloing all the universal mater around it including light and truning in ot ablack hole .(the vefry sight is reported by Lord krihna himself asthe act of annihilation for remaking of the universe after some thousands of eons .Since the colour of the sky is blue , that .colour is represented in the body of the God and since the deep space is dark , Lord krishna(God ) is also depicted as one of black colour .

If you are tamil - then this is for you: Krishna is not really blue - he is dark in colur - Krishna in sanskrit means dark/black. There is a tulsi variety which is somewhat black - so called as krishna tulsi.
In Divya prabhandam, thondaradipodi alwar a vaishnavite saint sings "Pachai maamalai pol meni pavalavai kamala sengan achuta amarar eRE - aayar tham kozhunthe" - so he sees god in green colur....

There are two known stories about why Krishna is black. One is when Vasudev, Krishna's father, was crossing River Ganga, Ganga was extremely happy and she reached out to touck the Lord's feet and Krishna turned blue-black. Another one is that Krishna is obviously an incarnation of Vishnu, who is blue-black. Why is Vishnu black? Well, he lives in the Sea, so, the waters have turned him black. One thing is for sure. Krishna's colour shows that he is very unique and special. He is the Lord.
