This is my second baby. I'm only 4 weeks along, but just like with my daughter, I am SO tired. I just want to sleep. My daughter is 8.5 months old and is full of energy. She only takes 1/2 hour naps. By the time I get her down and lay down myself, I don't have time to actually fall asleep. We don't have any family near by to watch her for a bit and I am just wondering if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks!

Hi, rather horrible few months been there b4. Well, there isn't much you can do to make them sleep longer nor calm them down, kids are hyper active and will continue to be so till they are parents.

I tried a few things that helped ease the situation a little, some of them depends on the availibility of my parents so I am not so sure they apply to you but here goes;

- Try taking them on a short car drive - cars are magic, they get them to sleep in seconds

- Try to avoid feeding them food that has sugar, it can increase their energy levels

- Stabilize their sleeping hours, your baby is old enough to have sleeping hours. If h/she is active, just take him/her to a dark, silent room where there is nothing to do or see

- I take my kid once a week to my mum where he sleeps over. She has to suffer once a week, but i get a great night

- Avoid watching tv etc, the sound makes them energetic. There is action around, just like having guests, it's entertainment for them.

That is basically it, sorry dear, not much to do, try the above and good luck
