To the dim-wits who think there is no oil below the Rockies... Most geologists are in agreement that there is a huge fuel deposit below the Rockies, possibly one of the largest in the world. However, considering the state of mind in a certain city in Colorado (I'll tell you this, I'm not referring to Denver, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, or Grand Junction!) it will likely never be tapped, even though the sad truth of the matter is that modern drilling really has virtually no impact on the above-ground environment.
Critics would be wise to look at the statistics of the wildlife herds in Alaska, where the caribou herds have flourished as they use the pipeline as a warming station in the middle of winter. They might also be interested to know that there are huge oil platforms that have been developed to function such that they cause less trauma to the delicate tundra than a single human footprint.

Oil isn't from dinosaurs. The earth is making oil all the time. I haven't heard about the oil below the rocky mountains. That question suggests that you haven't seen those mountains, they are SO big!
We are going to drop oil as a power source, and oil will be irrelevant, just as buggy whips and buggy wheels.
Here it to the future

America today is worse than the Soviet Union was 30 years ago for the myriad laws that restrict private enterprise.
Companies just simply don't want to deal with the 74 alphabet soup agencies just to set up an exploratory hole.
When the atomic fallout begins, maybe we can get the hate America crowd out of the way and begin to restore the liberty that made this country the wealthiest economic powerhouse the world had ever seen.

When oil goes back up to $79 a barrel or higher.
It would be extremely expensive to go after oil in the rocky mountains right now so unless oil supplies get to be really low driving up the price of oil and making it economically feasible to go after oil in the Rockies, no oil company is going to go get it.

To those who deny the existence of oil in the Rocky Mountain region it would be beneficial to read the following articles:

However, it should be noted that the willingness to drill in pristine areas of wilderness that should be preserved for generations to come, as part of our enduring heritage, is an unacceptable solution to our energy dependency on Middle Eastern oil reserves. The only way to resolve this issue is to revert back to what Americans do best; that being relying on our inventiveness to create alternate sources of energy, and allowing the free market system to truly allow alternative fuel sources to emerge without being fettered by cumbersome government restrictions and bureaucracy.

If you're voting Democrat we'll be riding in donkey carts before they'll risk harming a single endangered weed or defensless gnat drilling for evil crude oil. So it's probably now happening any time soon. As far as oil companies go, they generally set up a consortium for exploration to spread the risk. But BP, Shell, and Standard Oil are good bets.

As soon as Harry Reid makes a real estate investment in the area you can be sure development will soon follow. Just employ the "Harry Reid Investment Plan", and sit back and do nothing but let Harry vote on your behalf. Any small $18,000 or more contribution to Harry's campaign fund will secure your investment as long as you are aware this money goes into Harry's personal tip money for those D.C. Trips!!!Order your copy today !!

The reason that we have not begun extracting the shell oil is
Environmental wackos who hate capitalism, and want the USA to go back to the stone age just to protect some animal.
however you should look into the shell oil mines in Canada to see which company is likely to do the same thing in the US

Hopefully, never. When it comes to energy we need to wake up and abandon fossil fuels asap (now would be good). Our Sun and planet provide us with more energy than we need: solar, hydraulic, tidal, geothermal, electromagnetic...etc. We just have to find a way to get big oil and auto to stop blocking research and development and get some political will behind it.
