Many, but not all, Asians work very hard. Their culture recognizes that value of a great education.

It has been reported that if the California colleges and universities accepted students based solely on merit, 95% of the students would be Asian. Acceptance is based on cultural diveresity in Califormia and not merit.

Other minorities have students who perform very well, but in general, there are some other minorities whose culture does not value an education.

All three:character, ethic, parenting..For other minorities, we are instilled with the same things, probably even more so than the Asians because we are taught to tough it out in spite of our living conditions. Unfortunately, for most minorities, the attraction to t.v, and the nurture of the outside elements are so powerful. Asians are people, just like other minorities here in the states but perhaps they(Asians) haven't grown up where there is constant guns shooting, or broken homes, or a neighborhood where they are profiled and let down, therefore leading to negative attitude and eventually negative behavior.

I would say its all three of the things you mentioned. Parenting would be the most influential, 2nd work ethic, and third character. BTW I am Asian. My parents refused to allow me to bring home any grades that weren't As. It was expected that i get an A in every class in high school and college. And honestly, I liked being the smartest in the class. It made me feel superior. So, now, many years out of college and grad school I make a very nice income and have a comfortable lifestyle. Was it worth it? Yes, yes it was. :) And I am going to instill the same values into my children.

well first off i dont beleive the stereotype that all asains are smart. When i was in high school, i took all the of the really challenging AP courses and in them there were maybe 2-3 asain kids. Compared to how many asians there are in my school I wouldnt say they have better parenting, work ethic or what ever. Sometimes the asains have the higest grades, but more offen than not, its not. For example (I went to three high schools) I my Ap Calcululus class, the smartest person in there was black. There where like three asains in the class and two of them dropped out of calculus the second semester. In my AP biology class, there were two asains, and they made b's or c's and I made the highest grade.

I personally have never been in a class that was dominated my asains making all the high, expect in one of my schools, in one class, thats it.

So my answer is its individual, being asian does not make you smart. If they were really so smart, then wouldnt all of them be in the hard classes and make the higest grades? Its just a few out of the bunch, and now its like if your asain, then you must be smart. (no offense to anyone) There are the same amount if not more black or other minorities in the bunch but i never hear anyone say hes mexican, he must be smart, or shes black she must be smart. (The stupid hip hop culture may have something to do with why the "good" blacks get a bad rap.) My family teaches me good work ethic (im black) and they teach me to learn from there mistakes, and i do. But my brother, raised by the same parents did his own thing and basically dropped out of school. Its individual.

well anyway peace and love to everyone out doing the right things...chai

Parents and work ethic. Note which asian kids do well. Are they from Cambodia or Laos or from China, Japan and the Koreas????

I think Bill Cosby said "They're called 'Asians' because they get As." He went on to say that if you went to the library in the evening, you'd see Asian kids there.

It's parenting. There's considerable emphasis on doing well in school. Do Asian kids come from fatherless homes? Are 30% of their fathers criminals?

It is work ethic and they are success driven. They have a team mentality as opposed to an individual mentality.

Obviously you haven't met or heard about Asian kids who struggled at school and even failed. It's stereotyping that Asian kids are overachievers at school. A lot of these kids fell to the sideline, joined gangs and ended up getting killed or jailed. I've seen that.

All of the above. Yet there is way too much pressure for them if you ask me. That is why I heard in Japan the men don't live long. Theyre so stressed out from mental work work work.
