I was found guilty of a crime ten years ago but I know I was innocent. The offence will have a lasting effect on my life. Now the college that I want to apply for wants to know the circumstances of my crime. Almost every one thinks you are guilty regardless of your story. How do I explain this to them without sounding like one of those people who proclain innocents even though they are guilty. I what my point to be heard without sounding like a guy dening what the jury found. " I've heard it said that every body in prison says their innocent" I don't want to sound like one of those.

Well this is a tough situation to be in. There are perhaps hundreds of people sitting in prison right now who are innocent. Wasting their lives away for something they didn't do. Unfortunately our legal system is not perfect. Just think of how many people were put to death that were actually innocent. I think in your situation you should explain to the college in the utmost detail of the situation. Explain how you were thought to be involved, explain what punishment was, explain what you learned from the experience regardless if you were innocent or not. Colleges want to know what you learned from the situation more than anything. It was a learning experience for you for sure. Explain how it affected your life and how you have changed since being charged. I would also say that you hope to become a lawyer and champion peoples innocence and help people in situations similiar or worse than your own. This will tell the admissions people at the college you are applying that you have the drive to make a difference in this world and that you aren't going to let anything stop you no matter what life throws at you not even being charged with a crime. I wouldn't even get into real detail about whether you were innocent or not just the fact that you learned from it. I hope this helps. Good luck.

The first question is how old are you? The next is what state are you in? In Texas if youre under 21 and you have any detectable amount of alcohol in your system your wrong and your guilty. Now if youre 21 or over there are a lot of shades of gray...If you took a blood test and the results come back showing you were intoxicated then that doesnt automatically mean you are going to be slam dunked. If you have a clean record then they will take that into account...if you want to strike a deal with them without going to court then they will probably do that too... There are a lot of variables here, you should write back and tell me more or im me at walter4p46 on yahoo...good luck

You were found guilty but you are innocent so does the court know your innocent b/c if they didn't take that guilty label off of you then it's hard for you to find jobs, etc. Maybe you should go to court and fight for your innocence. There are legal aids aren't there? IF you know your not guilty, fight for it because you don't want to be known as guilty and be misunderstood by other ppl when that's not who you are.

Be straight forward and tell the story as accurately as possible... You can't appear to be putting a spin on the story... The moment I start to doubt you (and you are right, I would start to doubt you from the record), I can't be sure what is true...

i would explain that "was convicted of __________ and served ________time or whatever community service and have paid my debt to society" go on to say, that you are striving to imrove yourself and assure yourself a succesful future and you have worked to achieve this by__________ and for this reason the college would help me attain my goals.

don't tell them you are innocent, they will just think you are fibbing, make it sound like a phase in your life that is past and attributed to a misguided youth and that you are now on a staight path

good luck
