From Northern Ireland to the UK mainland there are no restrictions.

From the Irish Republic you can bring as many as you like provided that they are for personal use only.

If you are bringing in alcohol or tobacco goods and there is a reason to suspect they may be for a commercial purpose, a Customs officer may ask you questions and make checks.

You are particularly likely to be asked questions if you have more than:
3200 cigarettes, 200 cigars, 400 cigarillos, 3kg tobacco, 110 litres of beer, 90 litres of wine, 10 litres of spirits, 20 litres of fortified wine (such as port or sherry).

This is a surprising question. Cigarettes are very expensive in Ireland (because of taxes), most Irish stock up on the duty free in France and Spain. So, why do you want to bring cigarettes back from Ireland?

I am not sure, probably 300, but what is the point of bring them back when the Control Police (to wit the Government) won't allow us to smoke them anywhere.

I believe it is quite easy to buy a gun in Glasgow, but light up a cigarette in a pub in Bridgeton or Gartscadden and see what happens

If it is for personal use you are allowed as much as you want because Ireland is part of the EU it won't be a problem but you have to prove they are for your own use.

How many can you carry?

Provided they are for personal use you can bring back as many as you want - go on take a transit van.

p.s. I'm assuming your coming back to the UK!!
