I know Afghanistan and Pakistan are both predominately Mulism countries, but history states that Buddhism entered those countries before Islam did. I also heard in the news that in recent years anti-Buddhists blow up ancient Buddhist statues. Does that mean there many difficulties being a Buddhist in those countries nowadays? Do they get discrimmated against? Or what?

okay.. give this cr@P a break guys!

i live in pakistan.. we actually have our government provide facilities to the buddhist community (residents and visitors) facilities of visa, transportation and security 24x7 specially on this certain annual festival when buddhists from all over the world (specially from india) come over to nankana sahib (near lahore).

i also totally reject the ideas being spreaded by islamophobiacs about islam not respecting other religions.. this is another huge fallacy..

islam assures 100% religious freedom but the condition laid down is that the others also respect the religion of islam and do not create any sort of threat to it...

the anti-buddhist activities in afghanistan were part of a terrible phase in the afghan history (which i'm sure was less miserable than the post american invasion era) that was due to the intolerance and illiteracy on part of the talibans. these acts were unislamic to the best of my knowledge.

as for you query.. i hope i've already given an answer detailed enough. no, its absolutely fine leading the life of a buddhist as the state laws prevent your rights EQUALLY as they protect the muslims and other minorities.

Swaggs, Robert is TOTALLY right. Islam is quite simply the most despicable and hateful religion being practiced in the modern world, totally intolerant of others, not wanting peace with anyone (even their own kind).

If you are truly a Buddhist currently living in Afghanistan or Pakistan then I truly feel for you my friend, you are truly unfortunate. Just as they destroyed the statue of ancient Buddha, they will destroy you as well.

Muslims are simply hostile towards others, no matter what their religion including Buddhists.

And Buddhists should retaliate against the destruction of their statues. How about targeting the "holy" city of Mecca?

For the doofus who said "Way to go Robert, nice blanket generalizing" - If the shoe fits....

It is difficult to be anything other than the particular brand of Muslim the extremists belong to. They even kill other Muslims.
