I have done a lot of research on this because my hubby and i are trying to concieve. I will run everything down for you....

Grain:
Whole wheat bread and pasta, Oatmean & Brown rice
6-11 servings daily; serving = 1 slice or 1/2 cup

Fruit:

2-4 servings daily; serving = 1/2 cup, medium piece, 1 slice melon

Veggies:
3-5 servings daily; serving = 1 cup raw, 1/2 cup cooked

Dairy:
Lowfat you and frozen yougurt & part-skim mozza cheese
3-5 servings daily; serving = 1 cup, 1 ounce

you can go to www.cfsan.fda.gov to read up the the fish and the intake during pregnancy.

And of course drink 6-10 glasses of water a day and try to avoid as best as possible soda n juice containing a lot of sugar

Best of luck in the months....and years to come

Hey, how are you today? That's great that you just found out that you are pregnant! Um...there's a couple things you shouldn't eat to much of while pregnant. Drink lots of water, lay down on the sugar and caffeine. Don't eat to many sweets either! Eating and drinking bad food with lots of fats, and sugars and give you and your baby a certain type of diabetes. It's not a to serious one but it's still diabetes. However, if you were to get that, you would get rid of it once you had your baby, but your baby would have it forever. Just be careful to lay off the sweets. Also, lots of salads and meats. Another thing, remember to take your pre-natal vitamins that your doctor will give you. It's very important to take those or your baby can get sick from it. < Kim

The best food to eat is tomatos!! They are so good for you and the baby. Don't eat a lot of salt and sugar. It will not hurt the baby, but it will make you swell and be misreable. Eat anything you want, just watch your portions! It is a myth that you are eating for two. You are still just eating for you. Only take tylenol. No IB profin or naproxin. Don't take anything until asking your doc. Congrats and you need the bible "What to Expect when Your Expecting"

Do not eat:

-lunch meats that have not been heated to steaming
-unpasteurized soft cheeses, juices, or honey
-raw eggs, meat or fish
-alcohol of any kind
-more than 3 cups of coffee (or the caffeine equivalent) per day
-anything that aggrivates your nausea (if you have any yet)
-fermented beverages (like kombucha)
-fruits or vegetables that have not been either washed thoroughly or cooked
-non-food products such as dirt or ashes (some people with a specific pregnancy-related condition, called pica, crave these things)
-More than 6 oz. of fish per week (due to the mercury content, smaller fish are safer than larger)

Other than that, most anything is safe. Ask your doctor if you have questions. Try to keep up your fiber intake through whole grain products and fruits and vegetables and keep up your iron intake with green leafy vegetables and red meat.

Happy pregnancy!

When pregnant you can pretty much eat what you ate before you were pregnant just try to cut down on caffeine, fish, tons of junk food, anything that is not pasteurized can be dangerous, and just make sure the meats you eat are well cooked. I can't think of anything else just make sure you drink lots and lots of water. Good Luck!

Jilldanie.... has the best answer so far. That's what I've been reading. if you go to http://www.babyzone.com tey have a nice article about what not to eat when you're pregnant. They have lots of other great articles as well.

As said before, get "What to Expect When You're Expecting" it's a great book that answers so many questions. There's a companion book called "What to Eat When You're Expecting" that's also great if you want to know what to eat and what not to eat. Both are excellent books that will help you.

Being that you are pregnant you should not eat things that are spicy, don't drink sodas that are dark. My doctor also tell women to stay away from things that gives you heart burn because it real is not a good feeling. You should eat things that are healthy like fruits and vegetables because you need to remember that you are not looking out for your self but for your baby. Take care of yourself and I hope the best for you.

Do not eat oysters. Be careful in the amount of fish you eat because of the mercury. Don't eat raw eggs and be careful with lunchmeats.
There are lists on the BabyCenter website. These are just the ones that stand out.
Congrats!

Everything is fine except alcohol (obivously) and you want to avoid sea food as much as possible and NEVER eat any fish you catch yourself.

Other than that there really isnt anything to avoid. Some people will tell you to avoid soft cheeses. But me and the italians eat it when pregnant, our babies are fine :)

Nothing unpasteurized. Juice Milk or Cheese. It's not safe. Soft cheeses sometimes aren't pasteurized and since it's fall... no fresh apple cider either! Always microwave your lunchmeat if you must have it, make sure its steaming hot to kill listeria. Honey isn't pasteurized either. No alcohol or rum punches or champagne during the holidays. Fresh eggnog made at home has raw eggs, another no no. Just use your best judgement when you're unsure. Good luck!
