This is definitely a question for a gynecologist, not a primary care doctor.
This could be SO many things--- endometriosis, ovarian cysts, polycystic ovarian failure, a hormonal imbalance and the list goes on.
A gynecologist will do an internal exam, and probably run some blood tests as well. Ask your GP for a referral ASAP.

Go to an OBGYN who specializes in fertility issues. They usually have the best knowlege regarding unusual periods. I also recommend finding a doctor who will listen to you... AT ALL COSTS. It's possible that your GP is out of his league on this one. It's also possible that your insurance carrier is in his pocket. Believe it or not, some doctors get extra "incentives" for keeping costs to heath insurance companies down.

If your GP doesn't know the cause of this maybe go see another GP as this is abnormal. If that doesn't work, go see a specialist and do it very soon.

Hi Saint-
I agree that your General Practioner is just that and you need a personal GYN..with what is going on with you can be a sign of Endometriosis- ...There are many treatments today available along with options to assist with this..... All will be well though....But make your appointment soon...
Good luck

Go see a gyno. A GP wouldn't really know what he/she's looking for or at.

You may have fibroids or a hormonal unbalance. Find another Gyno that knows what she's doing.
