I have the bad habit of mixing all my clothes together when I wash them, and sometimes forget to wash new stuff seperately first. A bunch of stuff that was white or pastel is now really grey, and I won't use bleach, so what else might work?

put the white clothes in the washer start it once it has started to wash add Clorox bleach run for about 5 minutes turn off let sit about 15 minutes start again..when done wash clothes again..then the next time you wash all your clothes together throw in a color catcher that you can buy in the laundry isle..they help catch alot of the color and keeps the whites a little whiter longer..hope this helps..p.s. I also add all my clothes together when in a hurry and this is how I get mine white again)

An hour before you wanna wash them, soak em in a bucket of hot water and dishwasher detergent. Approx 1 gallon to to 2 tablespoons. Then just pour it in the washer add your regular detergent and wash em. It worked on my socks

Use an all fabric bleach like RIT Laundry treatment - it's safe on all fabrics and colors works well on older linens as well. They also make a Color Catcher for when a helper is doing laundry it prevents that "red sock" from ruining your whole load.
