Whichever one has the largest role in parenting her. If they both do, ask both.

GREAT QUESTION!

if she is still close with her real dad, i say ask him first. how would you feel if you were the dad, and the b/f asked your ex's hubby first and not you??? better yet, if you can get her real parents together, say in a bar ask them both at the same time and that way the other spouses will find out later. just dont tell them that the other one will be meeting you there as well. keep it as a surprise.

I agree with some of the other answers you have gotten already . I have a daughter , & her Dad has never been a father to her & my husband has always raised her like she was his & she has said many times that my husband ( her step dad ) will be the one walking her down the isle , I think it depends on the father/daughter relationship sneak & if your not sure then ask her Mom...lol

Well, it all depends on her relationship with both, as well as how long her step-dad has been in her life.

If I still spoke with my dad, it would be expected that my boyfriend ask him for my hand since my step-dad came into my life when I was already 20.

But, I don't speak to my dad, so my boyfriend needs to ask my mom, not my step-dad.

The man she considers her "father" of course. Yes, they are both connected to her, but if she lived with the step dad and doesn't really talk much to the other, then the step dad it is. If it becomes too difficult, ask them to both have dinner with you, and ask them both!

In our society today, you ask the girl and asking the father is merely a nice thing to do. You are not REALLY asking him for his permission to marry - as long as your girlfriend is old enough, her father can't actually stop it happening no matter what answer he gives. So it is really just a courtesy to let him know this is the direction you want to go. In that case, you can either ask both, or ask the father she lives with, or the one she considers to be the most like a father to her.

I think you should ask them both. I seen this wedding show where both the father and the step-father walked the bride-to-be down the aisle. First the father and then he handed her off to the step-father and finally to meet the groom.

Both, but ask the one who is closest to her first. Well, unless one of them hasn't been there for her in the past. That is a special moment that should only be shared with the people in her life that deserve to be included. Congrats and good luck!

If her dad is in her life, ask the real dad first. Out of respect for the step-dad, ask him as well.

If her biological dad is a big part of her life, then him. Thats her dad. But if the bio dad is out of the picture or is a jerk, then the step, assuming he's good to your girlfriend
