Do you think India should ever allow US to set up its millatry base in India?

NO. It's a matter of self-respect. Forget about allowing to setup a military base, India should always keep America at a distance. Given the American mindset, their brash attitude, their foreign policies, their don't-care attitude towards international laws, treaties, it's always better to keep the Americans at a distance.

The question never arose for consideration in the history of India. Neither US wanted to set up a base, nor was Indian inviting them to do so. Every time, there has been an attempt by the US to have a foot hold in any of the countries in our neighbourhood or in the Indian Ocean, we have been raising a hue and cry against the attempts of the US. We had protested against their having a base in Diego Garcia. When there was rumour about their setting up a base in Sri Lanka, we again were alarmed and never wanted them to exercises undue influence in this area.

India and US are two great democracies and free countries where people of all religions and races etc are equal citizens. About the bases, I think it should be reciprocal. The world should become free and united, if the main artificial boundaries between countries can be brought down then these questions will become irrelevant. Till that time the sovereignty of the state has to be guarded.

US will never think of making base at country which has equal military status in terms of nuclear, missile, modern air force,and navy etc., US thinks pakistan is small country and makes friendship with them only to make military base. US knows India and china are next Super Power. US Education is not affordable to all people in the US. Unemployment and Poverty started growing in the US. In US Manufacturing costs are very high and depends on outsourcing from China,India etc.,US Dollar value is being depreciated after Iraq war. But Country in the asia like India and china are growing like anything. Earlier US only had Nuclear weapons in it possession. Now small country like pakistan,Iran, and North korea have Nuclear weapons. Now looking at all these arm race who will setup military base at whose premise will remain question.

The US has already occupied diego garcia and converted it into a mil. base.

The US has always implemented policies to protect its interest only.It doesnt matter that a country like Pakistan will always be having close relations with US. As soon as thier aim is fulfilled they will kick out Pak.

Therefore close relationship with US is as harmful as its 'DUSHMANI'

Many of us don"t know that US has a naval base at CHAGOS ISLANDS[ diego garcia] in Indian ocean just south of sri-lanka. It is a very important position strategically.They need not step in Indian soil.India should claim that island.
