This problem is very common if you use peer-to-peer type programs with a router instead of being directly connected to your computer. Essentially, the router can't handle the traffic being generated by the peer-to-peer software.

Peer-to-peer software includes software such as limewire, bearshare, utorrent, kazaa, azureus, bitcomet, etc. There are a large number of them. Any program where you connect to "many other people" to get your file is probably a peer-to-peer program.

One way to test if this is your problem is to completely shut down your p2p (peer-to-peer) programs. Make sure they are out of memory and not just sitting in the system tray.If the connection stays up, your problem is probably p2p.

The problem can often be solved inside your p2p programs. Just about all of them support advanced functionality that can help correct for the router. Generally this happens because some routers can only handle 256 "connections". Usually, if you reduce it to say 100 or 150, it will correct your problem. It *may* sack your performance a bit, but your only other option is to hook the modem directly to your computer.

Another common source of this problem with p2p is if you set your upload too high. Upload should be set to no more than 80% of your upstream bandwidth. If you are not sure if your upload is set too high, set it to 1 to test. If the problem stops, this was the problem. The problem with setting your upload that low though is that most programs will not give you a good download if your upload is too low, so you'll want to slowly slide it up to find out what the tolerance on your connection is.

Finally, there is a chance that someone who is behind your router may also be causing the problem. If anyone else uses a computer that uses your internet connection, find out what htey are using, they may be causing it with much of the same things I just described that you could be doing.

Go with that. Good luck.

Is your ISP Netgear, or is your Router Netgear? I didn't know Netgear was also an ISP Provider. Anyway, I have a similar problem only I discovered I had a problem with my encryption not being compatible with my software firewall. Once I removed the firewall from my Panda Internet Security Suite the problem resolved. I have a good firewall in my Belkin Router, so I am not at any risk removing the Panda Firewall. Some software Internet security suites are not compatible with WPA encryption. I would have had to use WEP if I kept the firewall with Panda. Now Panda is compatible so I can use the firewall.

We used Netgear Router before we purchased the Belkin hardware and we had to reset the Router a few times a week. Go to the Router and unplug it, wait thirty seconds, plug back in, go and reboot your computer and see if this resolves the problem. If not contact Netgear customer service and get help from one of their techs. Good luck and have a nice day.

My pc used to do a similar subject. it may lose the internet connection each jiffy, besides the certainty that it may locate the internet. right this is how I fixed it. I un-checked the field on the section the place you tell it to hook up with the internet returned. i'm uncertain what the field replaced into, yet i've got self assurance I un-checked it. regardless of if it is un-checked, the verify it. it is on the 1st component to the situation the place you tell your computing gadget to connect. you do no longer replace pages. basically seek for the field and un-verify it.
