When you are supposed to be due for delivery, the cervix can start to dilate a bot but the progress of dilatation will usually take place once the labor has started. Since you have not started your labor, there is no point for the doctor to check if your dilatation has progressed. At 36 weeks, you still have few weeks to wait (2-4 weeks at least) but it is possible also that you can deliver earlier. The little brown discharge is a sign that you are expecting to deliver nearly.

Be strong and Good luck!♥

my doc. decided to start checking me every week after 36 weeks. How far along are you? If you have dilated to a 2 and you are under 36 or 35 weeks they wont check you unless you are having contractions or other symptoms. My doc. told me the reason they did that is because if get checked it could cause things to happen or start up if you were before that stage and already dilated. Thats why they dont check you before then unless you are having contractions or other symptoms, but if you stopped then theres no worries. People can stay at 2cm for weeks. I know I have been stuck at 1cm and 100% effaced for 2 weeks now..lol and I am 38 weeks along. Dont worry everything will work out fine.

I'm not sure he could have checked but, unless you at least 36 to 37 weeks he may have thought it better to let things be... checking can cause more spotting i went into labor 2 hours after my doctor checked i was 37 weeks pregnant. You should have ASK if you thought you needed checked. EVERY visit with this pregnancy my doc ask if I'm having problems or concerns. I was dilated 3.5 cm from 7.5 months with mt daughter. Early dilation's is common expecially in a 2ed or more pregnancy. The discharge being brown means it's old blood pink or red blood would need to be checked out more closely.

You are supposed to be checked weekly after you hit week 35. They are to check you each time. You need to go back to him and tell him he needs to see if you have dilated any more. The doctor is definately supposed to check that. Call the docs office. Tell the head nurse that you came for your check-up and you are 2 cm dilated and he did not check your dilation process. The head nurse will tell you what needs to be done or set you up an appointment again. Let her know about the discharge also.

Not necessarily. Since you were very recently checked, and you were at 2 cm, and then you told him about the discharge, which I fully imagine was the mucous plug (nasty sounding, I know), then he knows that you're continuing to progress towards true labor. He probably didn't feel the need to check your dialation, as he'll be seeing you again REAL soon (losing the plug is pretty much a guarantee that you'll be going into labor very SOON).

depending how far along you are you should be checked every time you go in but keep in mind you can stay 2 cm for a few months. I was 3 cm at 6 1/2 months and didn't dilate anymore until my 8th month. anytime you go to the dr and you want him to check you just tell him, he should do it, you are paying for his services

He might not have wanted to check your cervix because he doesn't want to accidentally rupture your membranes too soon. If you want to move things along once you're 37 weeks you can try doing squats and hold the squat until you feel pressure from the baby's head pushing on your cervix then push down. Good luck it won't be long now.

He could have checked again, but it seems that you're going once a week now so you must be close. So long as you told him about the discharge color (and odor if any), things should be OK. However, if you have doubts... DOUBLE CHECK! It won't hurt anything to ask again or someone other medical professional.

nope....he may not feel the need to check again. unless you are severely cramping and there is a loss of fluid, there's no worry. you could walk around for 2 weeks 2cm dialated.

If you wanted him to check--you should have asked. If he felt there was nothing wrong with your condition he wouldn't just check you. I was dilated 2 cm for the entire last month of my pregnancy.

My doctor didn't check me every week. Every doctor's office is different.
