Could be a lot of things... if the car is relatively new and under warranty, get a scope test done at your dealer and that will identify the problem. If it's an older car, could be your idle is too low, your fuel-air mixture or a number of other things.

Samething just happened to me yesterda, I took my car to the shop and they told me it was one of the Fuel Injectors. They said it coul've been the spark plugs, cables, or one other thing. Good luck, Each Injector for my car is gonna cost $75.

the most common problem is the throttle plate is binding.sometime it need to be clean. another problem is the idle speed control valve in dirty or binding due to carbon deposit build up .remove it and try cleaning it.otherwise,replace with a new valve
