I am feeling sick all day long and i'm constantly hungry. I have to eat all day long otherwise i will physically be sick. Even when i do eat i feel fine for 5mins and then it's back to feeling hungry and sick again. I've tried ginger biscuits but they don't seem to be making a difference. I am also very shattered and i'm really at a loss here, any help would be very appreciated. My first pregnancy 4yrs ago ran very smoothly and i had hardly any sickness at all, this time though it's all so different!!

I'm on my 8th week now, with my 2nd, who I was only sick with in the mornings and then it was done!
This one I wake up sick and go to bed sick....But not as much physically throwing up like last time, I just feel like it.

I have found a few things that mostly work.
1. Crackers- I eat about 5 before I even haul my butt out of bed. This seems to be helping out some since the shower makes me sick.
2. Sprite, others ahve told me gingerale, but I havent had it yet!
3. I EAT EAT EAT! even when im not hungry! I find that when im not snacking i get sick....Im just worried about the END result! How much am i going to gain

I read somewhere that a pregnant woman should only be eating an extra 3-500 calories...oops.....ha ha

Sorry you feel bad, I'll join your club!

Oh God this is EXACTLY how I was!!

I'm 32 weeks pregnant with my first and had this exact all day sickness for the first 14 weeks. It was a nightmare.

I'm sorry to say I tried everything and none of the "natural" remedies worked. Preggie Pops made me feel worse. Ginger just made me heave (can't stand the smell of it now), the seasickness bands did nothing, dry toast/biscuits first thing in the morning did nothing. i tried every thing thats advised and nothing worked for me. I ended up staying off work I felt so terrible. I couldn't even drive my car because I kept feeling faint all the time so it was a hazard for me to go out!

Eating something filling like porridge first thing in the morning sometimes offered some releif. But only for a while like you say.

In the end I was prescribed Cyclizine by my doctor - an anti emetic which also helped with the faintness. Cyclizine is safe to use in Pregnancy as are other mainstream antiemetics like Phenergan and Stemetil. I found that Cyclzine did help - I still felt slightly nauseous but nowhere near as bad.

Some women don't like taking anti emetics in pregnancy and its up to you whether you do or not. Personally I could not go on as I was and after being assured by a Obstetric Consultant that they have no bad effect at all on the baby I was only too happy to take them.

Everyone is different though, some people find the "natural" remedies work very well for them and don't need anything more.

Try all the natural suggestions but bear in mind that there ARE safe anti sickness drugs you can be prescribed by your doctor, if nothing else works and you're desperate.

Obviously you know not to take anything that hasn't been prescribed for you by a doctor when you're pregnant and only to take it in accordance with what the doctor says . . .

Morning Sickness
What is morning sickness?
Morning sickness refers to the nausea and vomiting that some women have when they become pregnant. It is caused by the sudden increase in hormones during pregnancy. Although morning sickness is more common in the morning, it can last all day for some women.

How long will morning sickness last?
Morning sickness is very common early in a pregnancy. It tends to go away later in pregnancy, and it's almost always gone by the second trimester (the fourth month). But there isn't a set time for it to stop because each woman is different, and each pregnancy is different.

Will morning sickness hurt my baby?
It shouldn't. Morning sickness can become more of a problem if you can't keep any foods or fluids down and begin to lose a lot of weight. Many doctors think morning sickness is a good sign because it means the afterbirth (the placenta and fetal membranes) is developing well.

Tips to relieve morning sickness
The tips below may help reduce morning sickness.

Eat small meals throughout the day so that you're never too full or too hungry.
Avoid rich, fatty foods.
Avoid foods with smells that bother you.
Eat more carbohydrates (plain baked potato, white rice, dry toast).
Eat saltine crackers and other bland foods when you feel nauseous.
Try gelatin desserts (Jell-O), flavored frozen desserts (popsicles), chicken broths, ginger ale (nondiet), sugared decaffeinated or herbal teas, and pretzels.
The iron in prenatal vitamins can bother some women. If you think your morning sickness is related to your vitamins, talk with your doctor and he or she may change your vitamins.
Wearing "acupressure" wrist bands, which are sometimes used by passengers on boats to prevent sea sickness, may help some women who have morning sickness. You can buy the bands at boating stores or travel agencies.
If these tips don't give you relief from morning sickness, your doctor may have other ideas. Keep in mind that morning sickness doesn't mean your baby is sick.

Don't know if my answer will help, I was exactly the same with both my pregnancies - was off work for 3 months each time, I was sick no matter what I tried - I found no magic cure, only making sure I ate constantly, and ALWAYS eat as soon as you are hungry, or you will feel worse. I found if I hadn't slept enough it was even worse. And if you are sick, its better bringing something up than just acid and bile!

Wait till the magic 13 weeks gets here - I bet it will just disappear!! I know it seems like ages away, unfortunately Dr's won't do anything unless you can't keep anything down esp. liquids. So if you are eating ok, then they will just go 'oh dear' and nothing else!

Best of luck - I have 5 weeks to go, and have just got the same constantly hungry feeling back - must be to do with hormones! Babies are parasites, and will take everything you have to keep themselves healthy, so don't worry about your sickness affecting him / her.

Dry foods like rich tea biscuits and don't get stressed as this makes it worse. My sickness went about 4 months every time and then i had a easy pregnancy till the end so hopefully yours will be easy too good luck. I tried everything made of ginger and acupuncture bracelets

If your morning sickness is bad enough to where you can't hold any food down for 24 hours, go to the emergency room. It could be hyperemesis gravidarum. If that's the case, you'll probably be admitted to the hospital and recieve fluids via IV, then you'll go home with a percription for either phenagren or zofran, both are nausea/vomitting relievers. I'm on zofran which is fine for the baby and helping me with my morning sickness a little. (Throwing up 8 times a day is an improvement from 12 times a day!) If you lose up to 10% of your body weight, go straight to the hospital and tell them you think you might HG. I feel for ya, sweetie. Hope you feel better soon!

I had the same problem. I know this sound weird, but in my experience with my daughter born 6.5 mos ago, I started about 9 weeks with all-day sickness. I realized that because of my heightened sense of smell, alot of those smells were making me sick. I used vicks in my nose. It helped. i carried it around in my purse up until about 5 mos into it. Also, mints helped. I got so sick of them though...
Eventually, my sickness would be gone in the mornings and back during the afternoon, and then not there until 7 or 8 at night.
Then, it went away completely.
BTW did you have a boy the first time?
You might be having a girl...the wife of a guy I worked with was due a month after me. She was having the same syptoms. She had a girl.

There are quite a few categories of food that help different people, and it may not even be the same type of food all of the time for you. See if any of these categories sound good:
-bland, mushy, sour, sweet, bitter, salty, earthy
Just eat whatever you can stomach. Sometimes, if you can break the nausea cycle, even for a few minutes, you can then get down something healthy. Hang in there, keep the slow and steady trickle of calories going, and you should start feeling better in a few weeks.

Peppermint Tea!!!! Theres no caffeine just make it a little weaker than normel and sip in between meals. Stay very hydrated 64oz of water a day. The tea helps with gas too wich makes it worse. Im going through a rough morning sickness all day too. the tea helps. Take the smells that make you quesy far away from your kitchen too!! lol Sometimes that list is longer than the edible ones though LOL! Keep snacking i don't think theres much we can do. Are you really small? my midwife says my system gets really off balance bc it doesnt take much of the horemones to get to me.
