You do hear some people being referred to in magazines as being an 'IT' Girl and iv always wondered wat does this mean...i think tara palmer tomkinson is referred to as one.

An IT girl is quite specific. It means someone with loads of money (usually from a rich family) who doesn't do anything for a living but stagger from showbiz party to showbiz party. Think Tara Palmer Tomkinson before she got a presenting job and Lady Isaballa Harvey before reality tv, that kind of girl.

Someone that is not really famous for anything but has a lot of money, wears designer clothes and spends most of thier time on red carpets or at shows. Nicky and Paris Hilton for example.

someone who is causing a lot of buzz in Hollywood with their performance in a movie or on a CD. they are usually people like Lindasy LOhan,Mischa Barton, Paris and Nikki Hilton. they make it big in Hollywood, have the look, the sound, are a multiple threat like Lindsay and Hillary, are actresses, singers, designers, etc. they are the new fresh faced celeb that everyone cannot get enough of who impressed everyone somehow.

An "it" girl is someone who is new to the Hollywood scene and is up to date with the latest fashions and goes to all of the hottest clubs. If she's an artist, then her music is on the top ten and if she's an actress, then she was recently in the coolest movie.

Girls who usually live off Daddy's money or reputation. They spend too much money on clothes, wear too much make up, drink and party too much and do very little to contribute to society apart from give the tabloids something to write about. However most girls would be lying if they said they weren't jealous as hell of them!!

The term "It Girl" has been around since the birth of the motion picture. Clara Bow was, I believe, the first "It Girl". She had the looks that others considered to be ideal. The men wanted to date her, the girls wanted to copy her, and the movie industry wanted to make money off of her. It had nothing to do with her money or attitude - but what others thought of her.

The "IT" girl mean the current Hollywood starlet. Like much things in Hollywood it use up in about a week or two.
or do they mean the "it" as in She has it. you know STD. That can also mean the it girl. the small "it" not the Big "IT".
