You've probably picked up some adware somewhere. 2 things.
1.) Microsoft has a free program called Anti-Spyware. Get that from www.microsoft.com/downloads

2.) Use your favorite search engine's toolbar, like yahoo!, google, etc. Most of your toolbars will include a free pop-up blocker.

I think Carella is jumping the gun a bit there, most others are about right.

I use the yahoo blocker because it's free, simple to use and it works 99% of the time as i want it to.

You can always overide it if you need to.

Everyone gets pop-up's, why someone is telling you to shell out £50+ on an engineers call is crazy.

Get somehing extra constructive then each and every of the loose suff (use that as backup) try getting Kaspersky AV, and both secret agent Sweeper or SpyDocotr. Then swap to Opera broswer or Firefox browser as those might want to have a lot less pop-ups.

Go to www.grc.com

The site is dedicated to computer and network security with no affiliations to major software houses or vendors. Yes they do sell software, but most of the tools and basic services are free. You can instigate an "scan" of your computer (with no risk) and be provided with simple easy to follow instructions on how to tighten up your own PC's security.

And by the way, if you know what you are doing blocking port 131 on your computer stops most pop-ups.

Get Ad-Aware SE Personal... it's free and really good (available at www.download.com.) Update the definition files and run a scan. You will most likely find some spyware/malware threats.

Then get Google Toolbar, it's pretty good at stopping regular popups.

First you can go to tools on the internet browser and go to pop up blocker and turn it on.
Secondly if that doesn't work down load a anti virus/ spy ware soft ware to kill the virus or spy ware. they cause pop ups too.

It's worth getting an expert to check your computer out at:

http://www.webuser.co.uk/forums/ubbthreads.php/Cat/0

Register, go to the Hijack This Forum, read the instructions on how to post a log, give a brief description of your problem (like you've just typed) and post your log there. The guys in there are fantastic and trustworthy and will guide you through in getting rid of anything nasty from your computer. Good luck!
