I think that the last line explains whole poem. You share an umbrella with a friend- that means that you are taking care of them and caring for them. It shows that you are not selfish. On the other hand you compete with a friend and you may even disagree with them. The poem shows that their is many definitions of a friend. When you compete with a friend it doesn't matter if you win or loose because you know that you will still be friends.

I don't think people will help with your home work, hun! ^_^
Besides I'm sure your teacher wants to know what you think they mean.

Of course I could be wrong and this isn't homework, but why would my answer need to be a certain length?

I will give you something to think about concerning these 2 lines.
What usually happens when you have to share an umbrella?
EDIT: Ah I see they are at different points in the poem! Well shoot can't even give you a hint on this with out writing your paper for you! XD and I can't do that! hehehehe

With A Friend

I can talk with a friend
and walk with a friend
and share my umbrella in the rain
I can play with a friend
and stay with a friend
and learn with a friend
and explain
I can eat with a friend
and compete with a friend
and even sometimes disagree
I can ride with a friend
and take pride with a friend
A friend can mean so much to me!

Hello, my name is Ali, I have a term paper due,
I'm real lazy so I'm pawning it off to you.
Someday I'll be sorry that I didn't even try,
and I'll be asking questions: "want a burger with that fry?'

A choice is being offered to choose between you and your needs or your friends needs , an appeal to greed from those who have, and such a torturous offering.should be banned..
