Your uterus produces it!

Your uterus is where a baby is stored if you get pregnant. The blood is the lining of the uterus which provides the babies nutrition before the placenta is formed (it takes like three months for the placenta to form). SO when the egg is fertilized it goes into the uturous and the stuff in there is the nutrients for the baby. However when no egg is fertilized the saved nutrients for the baby becomes trash and expires so it is the lining of the uterus that was not needed because there was no fertilized egg. Some people it takes 5 days to excrete the lining of the uterus some people 2 or 6 everyone is different so you may have light and heavy days but the same thing is happening in everyone.

Every month the womb prepares for the implantation of a fertilized egg: the spongy tissue fills with blood. In between two periods an egg cell is released (ovulation). But when the egg cell doesn’t meet a sperm cell it dies within 48 hours, so the girl won’t become pregnant. The preparation of the womb was vain: the lining is shed. This leaves the body through the vagina, coming out as a slimy, bloody fluid: you have your period. After this the whole cycle starts again. So the blood you see is the lining of the womb. If you take a good look, for instance when you take a shower and see the blood against the white of the shower tray, you can see it is not just blood, but bloody tissue. If fertilization does take place the fertilized egg is implanted in the womb and the lining is not shed. So missing a period is normally the first sign of pregnancy.

And you are soooo incredibly lucky to only have it for two days!

Your cycle is a complex hormonal feedback system and the why and how is too much to explain really briefly. Basically, your hormones dictate that you ovulate once a month and that your uterus builds up a spongy lining that's rich in blood in anticipation that the egg you've released will be fertilized. If it is, it burrows into the lining and is nourished by it. If it's not, the egg and the uterine lining are shed in preparation for your body to do it all over again the next month.

When you ovulate and the egg is not fertilized (meaning you don't get pregnant) the egg leaves your body. That is where the blood comes from.
