Hey - it depends on if its a 3 leg buffalo or 4 leg on the back - if its the 3 leg, you could have a small fortune in excellent condition - the 4 leg - more common, about $5-35. Try to call around coin shops and ask for prices as if you wanted to buy one. That should give you a high estimate on what its worth. Remember the coin's condition is huge in determining its value

There are actually 4 1937 nickels. The mint mark if any, is below the words five cents on the buffalo side of the nickel. Actually it is a bison not a buffalo. If no mint mark they retail for $1.00 to $3.00 in circulated condition, more if high grade. If there is a D, it stands for Denver, then it sells for $1.00 to $4.00 in circulated grades. Now there is one with a D but one of the legs of the buffalo is missing. This was caused when the die was polished to much and the leg was just polished off the die. This is a scarce item, not really a rare item. It retails for $600.00 to $2500.00 in circulated grades. Next comes the one with the S mint mark for San Francisco,it is priced the same as the regular D mint nickel. Now these are retail prices you would be 40 to 50% less.

There are many collectors magazines with up to date coin values. Or you could watch auctions on eBay to see what the going rate is. Unless it is a SPECIAL or rare mint its probably worth about about 5 bucks or so - if its really nice get it appraised and it will be worth a lot more....
