This might seem like a strange question but I wonder about it. Why is it blue for boys and pink for girls? Who decided that and why is it an unspoken rule across the globe?

Yes, I read somewhere that before WW1 is was the opposite way around. That pink was for boys because it was a watered down red, red associated with fierceness and power. Apparently it changed after the war because the nazi's used pink to identify homosexuals and so pink was then associated with girls. Wierd!!

It used to be the other way around................
The following 1918 quote from "Infant's Department" shows just how much our attitudes about the proper colors for clothing boys and girls have changed: "...the generally accepted rule is pink for the boy and blue for the girl. The reason is that pink being a more decided and stronger color is more suitable for the boy; while blue, which is more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girl."
While there are also myths and legends supporting both or either color
for gender identification, those resources dealing with straight
history date the identification of pink with femininity to the period
of World War II or later.

That is certainly interesting knowledge. Before WWII pink was for boys and blue was for girls... so maybe THAT is why I have all those little old men and women asking me about my 'boy' who is decked from head to foot in pink and purple!!
I admit I usually have to put at least one pink thing on my girl so that everyone (should) know that she's a GIRL. I love the onesie that says 'Before you ask, I'm a girl' too. But some of her outfits I adore the most on her are the powder blue ones, she looks so lovely in them...

because girls are soft and delicate so I suppose people associate those qualities with a warm color like pink. Now blue is a cool color and completely opposite of pink. And history has given male and female completely opposite roles...
I dont know it makes sense for me. But good question.

Because blue was a royal color and a color of war, the sea, the sky.
Pink is the color of things that grow and are infantile and fragile.
it just makes sense.
