If you're trying to conceive then you definitely don't want to be on birth control, kind of defeats the purpose ya know? My doctor prescribed me Metformin to regulate my cycles and promote ovulation. I have never had regular periods (ranged from 1 - 4 years apart). My cycles are every 28 days on Metformin. It is a diabetes medicine but has many other uses. It is one of the cheapest fertility drugs and about the only one that insurance will cover. Hope this helps.

Take Dong Quai (a vitamine/herbe) to regulate your periods. Then a couple days to a week after you start, use ovulation test strips ($ store), or a ovulating microscope.

The microscope is about the same size as chapstick, and you put spit on the slide. After it dries, it would have a ferning pattern if you are ovulating. You can reuse it everyday if you want. I bought one at walmart for around $4. Then, i bought another one recently there way marked down for $0.90!

Check it everyday. Dong Quai is supposed to be the female super-herb. google it!

I've heard the herb vitex helps regulate periods and helps conceive. Also I took clomid. IT is a fertility drug, never got me pregnant but made my cycles shorter.
