Well, I like the saying - if you give someone a fish, he eats for a day, if you teach him to fish - he eats for a lifetime.
That would be my strategy. Help people help themselves. Stop government spending on ridiculous things and reinvest that money into programs to help/teach/get people on thier feet.
Not just charity - I am talking really changing people's lives. And I think we should concentrate on America's people before we give so much aid to other contries. That should be left up to private donors, not our tax dollars.

Well there are so many avenues one could take to help in assisting fellow human beings . As a person (just 1) ,you could start by choosing or coordinating a program that assists other people that are poverished and give you time to that organization. It could be something as simple as reaching out in your own neighbor hood and offering free clothing, meals ,used or new books. It could be on a much grander scale such as helping the poor get housing ,water ,medical attention and education. It could be here in this country or in another .
The problem is so huge that no one person will ever solve it but every person that helps (even in the smallest of ways) can be a life saved.

I think that the probability of this being chosen as a featured question is high: you are correct in that the spirit of your question reflects the tone of the questions that are often featured--all the best to you.
Now, to answer the question. I'm a fan of the "think globally, act locally" plan. Get involved in helping those who are less privileged in your own communities: tutor children in the public schools;volunteer at a local nursing home; get involved in the fundraising for your community animal shelter; contribute to the local PBS and NPR stations so that the less fortunate have access to quality media programming; and so forth. Living one's principles is difficult; however, doing so can be contagious and one's corner of the world can be changed for the better and will hopefully spread.

Ok. Well....
So your question gets picked to feature at its best on front page of yahoo.
MIssion accomplished.
What are you going to do after that?
What are you going to get out of that?
How is that going to pamper and boost your ego?
And suppose this is a genuine question and
suppose you do want to do something to help your fellow human beings?
How are you going to do that?
Maybe by signing and handing over a plump check that would only buff your (or my) conscience and let you (or me) think that you (or I) have done your (or my) part in helping the suffering....while you (or I) continue to type words and words again when on the other side of nowhere people are in pain and in suffering.
You want to help?
Well... get up from that chair and go and see what it means to need and to be in need.
Once you do...then you wouldn't have to ask here "what one must do" to help his fellow men because you would be among them and would know what they need.
At this day, that's what I occasionaly do
and I hope in the future I get to do a lot more.
I know...
It may be nothing in the end when I am called to deliver but at least I would have actively done what I could.
My nothing...plus your nothing,
rest assured is something to many.....

Anytime something is given away free,it will be abused, there are people that really need help and will appreciate it but normaly our government representatives will listen only to the ones that will also yield returns in votes,I have seen welfare mothers take their kids right after the welfare check arrives and spend it on expensive cd's for the kids, instead of clothing and food which is what the checks are for,a poor person on welfare living in the US would be consider a well off person in a 3rd world country

You got a thumbs up from me on this question. I have no idea how they pick their front page questions so can't predict yours being there.
To answer the question though, The best way(s) to help our less privileged folks is/are to A) educate, educate, educate! B) Getting housing prices back down to a reasonable & affordable level C) Feed & Clothe the more desparate D) Provide medical, including mental, dental & vision care for the needy.
This could all be financed by the money we are THROWING AWAY in the mid-east wars. Therefore, we must impeach Bush & Cheney ('cuz they are both puppets of the same master) And get out asses out of everyone elses socio-political business & tend to our own, after which we can turn our attention to other nations poor living conditions & HELP not INTRUDE (with respect for their autonomy & wishes).
In my humble opinion.

The best thing that can be done for others is to make it so they can do for themselves.
Charity has it's place but it also has very dangerous pitfalls. Education is the great equilizer. Without Justice and Freedom, it all means nothing.
Provide charity when needed. Demand universal quality education. Fight tyrants for justice and freedom.
Unlimited, direct charity...the kind where you shelter, clothe and feed people indefinitely...only serves to make them parasites to society and slaves to the system.
Want someone to resent you? Provide them something they need until they become dependent on you for it.
You need look no further than the welfare recipients of most modern democracies. It becomes a cycle of failure, poverty and worse, government dependence and "entitlement".
The only way to break the cycle of people-dependent-on-government and the politicians that in turn depend on the "welfare vote" is to take the right of voting away from those who live on welfare and force those who are able to work.

We need to get rid of the mentality to be number one and win every time, every day. Make the most profit for the least amount of work. What ever happened to Customer Service. And NO!, I don't mean,"Press 1 for this..., Press 2 for that... I mean actually having a person come to you and tell you the business owner that he/she isn't satisfied with your product or service and you actually look this person in the eye and say, "I'll take care of that for you personally,Mr.Jones".

stable for you, i'm particular you're pleased with your self for making the determination to purchase yet another domicile, and friendly all the standards you felt replaced into needed. You should be elated and walk around with a great smile on your face. playstation i'm very pleased with you too. You knew the home wasn't actual for you so which you desperate to locate something extra effective somewhat of basically feeling undesirable approximately it. It took concentration and intensely lots of endurance to get the place you're actual now.

The best way to serve humanity is to always put people first. Stand up and take action when called to, lend a hand when asked to, protect where needed and always remember that it is by sheer luck that you are the aid and the person in need of assistance.

I like to go around and put the flag down on mailboxes. That way when the occupants open their mailbox later they find mail. Sure it's the mail they put out that morning. This probably makes them angry or confused. But right before they become angry or confused they are elated at having received mail. I have devoted my life to providing little unscripted moments of joy like that to strangers.
