Okay this is a difficult question to word so stick with me. I have heard it said that a person can know they are sane if they are able to ask themself 'Am I crazy?' because someone who is crazy would never question if they were or not. Now, knowing the logic of that, what if someone who was crazy was privy to the same knowledge?...what if a crazy person said 'Am I crazy...oh wait I can't be if I asked myself that'...right? So using that logic, if you ask yourself that question does it ensure that you're sane, or just prove that you're a smart crazy person?

I think the sane person would realize his thoughts are insane therefore knowing right from wrong...whereas the insane person would not ask himself if he's going crazy because the insane thoughts would seem totally sane to him...even if the insane person had a high level of intelligence the thoughts of conducting some high level plan to take over the world would seem perfectly ok with him and he would not ask himself if he was crazy

I work at a mental hospital, and one of the things we do help the patients with is recognizing that they have a mental illness (this is so they will take the medication they need.)
Some patients do arrive already realizing that there is something interfering with their lives, though, and sometimes already knowing that they are mentally ill.

most smart people are crazy to some degree.... but then again so are some not so smart people...but as a general rule, if you are wondering if your crazy, then you probably are not...
