Here is what would really make sense:
A 12 team tournament with these teams:
Champions from: Big 10, Big 12, Big East, ACC, SEC, and Pac 10 Champions.
4 at-large teams from the above conferences + independents based on the BCS or some other pre-determined ranking system.
2 at-large teams from the other conferences using the same system as chosen for above. (Mid majors get to play in the tournament this way. )
Seed teams based on the ranking system being used top 4 teams get byes.
Next four teams host the bottom 4 teams.
The following week the Top four teams host the winners from the week before.
Semi-Finals are played at a neutral sites.
Finals held at a neutral site.
$$$ from this tournament given to teams\confrences based on how the teams do.
Based on the above and the current BCS rankings you would have the following teams in the tournament:
Champions (Assuming the current highest ranked BCS team wins the championship. Which in SEC is actually unlikely)
Conf Champs:
Ohio State
USC
Auburn
West Virgina
Texas
Clemson
4 at-large
Mich
Florida
Louisville
Notre Dame
2-At-large
Boise State
Tulsa

I think voting for a national champion has to stop for college
football, and we need a definitive championship game. The
eight highest ranked teams (Power Conference champions
or not get in). I don't like the idea of a conference champion
getting from a relatively weak power conference getting in over
a team that is arguably, and plays in a more difficult conference.
Top 5 college football teams right now: 1. Ohio State 2. USC
3. Michigan 4. West Virginia 5. Louisville
I don't see how anyone can make the justification USC is worse than Michigan or any other team outside of the Buckeyes.

Dump the BCS? sure! Playoff, while preferable, won't happen. The conferences and their schools make way too much money from the Bowl games to ever want to dump the present system. Actually, the old way(naming National Champions by the polls alone worked rather well for most of college football history. Only about a dozen times did it fail when the different polls picked different teams and we had co- champions. The last one was the split National Championship between Michigan and Nebraska in 1997. After the great uproar (he says, sarcastically) over this the dreaded BCS was born. and the rest is history. One more thing, top 5 teams:
1Michigan
2Ohio State
3USC
4West Wirginia
5Louisville

keep it the way it is. no playoffs
you have to look at every game as a "playoff" game, with over 100 schools in division 1 you could never have a totally fair system. it is too bad that schools like West Virginia can go undefeated and still not play in the championship game, but there are many bowl games that they should be proud to play in.
also, Ohio State and Michigan will play a playoff game, whoever wins goes to the championship game! I CANT WAIT!!!!
top 5:
1.OSU
2.Michigan
3.USC
4.West Virginia
5.Auburn

Yes, we should DEFINITELY have a playoff system, and I've thought long and hard about what sort of playoff would make sense...here it is:
*26-team playoff (five rounds)
*Conference championship games in each of the six current BCS conferences; winner of each game earns a bye in the first round
*ONLY officials from the six current BCS conferences may be allowed to work playoff games in order to avoid officiating fiascos like we saw in last year's Alamo Bowl and Outback Bowl.
Don't forget how NW Missouri St. did last year!!! They went into the D-2 playoffs ranked #22 and went all the way to the championship game...try THAT with a bowl system!!!

Dump the BCS it sucks big time
Top 5 I'm not to sure right now the only team I agree with is Ohio State They really seem to have it all togehter this year. Now if SC would play an entire game I could be happier that my school is ranked so high.
