Thank you for asking this great question because it really needs to be dealt with before we can move on.
It is a irrational hatred, a transference if you will, because they cannot deal with reality. A treatable neurosis if you can just acknowledge you have it.
Way too much emphasis has been placed on the power of the president whereas the greatest potential for danger and evil is in a tyrannical congress such as we have today as the direct result of career politicians.
Take a look at how long some of them have been in office.
The real problem in America is stupidity, special interest and/or laziness of the voter. How does a person who takes bribes on video, laughs about the ineptness of the FBI and puts $100K in a freezer get elected 8 times? And then the Senate leaders yell and scream about separation of powers. Yes they are right, it is about their power and even if it is against the law, you will not thwart their power.
You have career politicians running the government, not citizen legislators. Many accuse the career corporate CEO of only working for themselves, not the stockholders. Career politicians are NO different and they seem to think they are above the law and expect preferential treatment. If the only issue to remaining in power is to obtain cash, buy some votes with special interests and have the media spotlight, then the incumbent has it easy, all at your expense.
In the Senate there are:
44 Dems averaging 20.8 years in Congress
55 Reps averaging 16.1 years in Congress
these numbers begin to make it look like career politicians are in control, who have lost touch with you the citizen and are more entrenched in their own careers.
For the Senate, if you were to use two terms or 12 years in Congress as a term limit
25 Dems would need to leave and 25 Reps would need to leave.
Those Dems are averaging 27.1 years in Congress
Those Reps averaging 24.0 years.
80% of Dems in the Senate have been there more than 12 years
58% of Repubs have.
46% of Dems in the House have been there more than 12 years
32% of Repubs have.
Ben Franklin said of congress, "They are of the People, and return again to mix with the People, having no more durable preeminence than the different Grains of Sand in an Hourglass. Such an Assembly cannot easily become dangerous to Liberty. They are the Servants of the People, sent together to do the People's Business, and promote the public Welfare; their Powers must be sufficient, or their Duties cannot be performed. They have no profitable Appointments, but a mere Payment of daily Wages, such as are scarcely equivalent to their Expences; so that, having no Chance for great Places, and enormous Salaries or Pensions, as in some Countries, there is no triguing or bribing for Elections"
If you like the current political system continue voting along partisan lines. If however you are tired of the corrupt ways of elections and would like to see Franklins words be true again, vote for change.
Our country is being run by career politicians who for the most part appear to have lost touch with what you want, and are focused on what they want.
You can change this NOW.
1. Quit your partisan sniping, it is childish and only serves to remove the focus from the real problem in America.
2. Enlist your friends and family in the fight and ask them, if they agree about Congress to do the same.
3. Vote against the person who has 12 or more combined years in Congress
4. This will require in many instances you having to vote for someone outside of your normal party, but you are a patriot and you can do what is right.
Show congress in this next election that we the people are running things in this country, not career politicians. And we are going to do what is right.
I will end now with a favorite quote of mine.
“If a legislator is "safe" from competition, or if he represents groups with the same economic and political beliefs, he does not have to change his ideas or respond to the needs of the broader population. He can rest content with a mediocre, absentee performance knowing he will be returned to office. And as he is returned year after year the seniority system gives him immense control over people from other parts of the country whose views he need not heed at all.” -Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Decisions for a Decade

OMG Where were you when I was answering other questions!?!? I'm so sick of hearing it's Bush's fault. As I've stated before, there's plenty of blame to go around.
NOTHING in this country gets done with or without Congressional approval or disapproval. Only after they decided and vote on it, can the President do the same. No legislation happens without going through proper channels. We can't get healthcare, social security reform, a wall to keep illegals out or anything else unless Congress does something to initiate it. The President can present ideas, but unless Congress acts on it, it can't and won't happen.
The war is the perfect example. Everyone calls it Bush's war. However, the truth of the matter is, Congress viewed all the documents that the President did. They agreed with him that action had to be taken. Congress voted and agreed to invade Iraq. The President executed the order and we went in.
It doesn't matter what party they are, Congress is the ones who really decide what does and doesn't happen. Your point about the parties in office is noted as well. However, I've gone from being in the middle to almost Republican. I'm so tired of the Democrat blame game and name calling. They have no platform, so my choice would be to keep the party we have in charge. However, in the end, I'll vote for best candidate, no matter the party. Which, is how it should be.

Not only Mr Bush or his Party, all the powerful houses and political parties of the world are under the control of some very big business tycons. They rule over the peoples of big houses and senates of all the countries of the world.
You elect anybody, he will not work according to your wishes, he will work according to his sponsors wishes and this world is going towards a disaster.
All I think is this and I pray THE ALMIGHTY that this proves wrong.

Unlike the democratic party which is very decentralized. The republican party is run top down with the president and leader of the party being Bush. His being in total charge of the party should allow him to get whatever he wants done easy. However he never really had to fight in a legislature before all he had was the Texas governor experience and that position is the weakest governor ship in the country. so Bush is totally unprepared for managing congress thus the hard time he's had getting his agenda through. I didn't elect any to office I vote democratic all the time never republican. The parties planks are repugnant to me and thus I can't vote for any of them.

You must also remember that while there is a majority of Republicans in both the Senate and the House they do not hold a 2/3 majority. Much of what is passed and not passed is due to the activity of both leading political parties. There is plenty of blame and plenty of credit to be given to both sides.

Only senior members of George W's party in the US, and some members of Tony Blairs cabinet office, ever saw the full documentation supplied by the CIA and British Secret Services. Both sides then editted these details to make presentations to our House of Commons and to your Congress and Senate. Only those people knew how little evidence there really was against Saddam, and both lied to bring their countries into war. You cannot blame your Congress or Senate as a whole body for a majority vote, when lied to by George W, Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney and Colin Powell, just as Tony Blair, Jack Straw & Peter Hune lied to our parliament.

I didn't vote for Bush, I don't like Bush. I do agree that it's not FULLY Bush's fault but he is the President of the United States. Even though it's not FULLY his fault, it is his job as president, to fix this. He see's that things got out of hand and he sees that people are not happy but yet he does nothing to fix the situation. I want Clinton back!!
